Programs for those living with HIV

Available programs and services are based on your insurance status. We work to provide assistance to those living with HIV who have private insurance, Medicare, Health First Colorado (Colorado Medicaid), and individuals without insurance. All programs are intended to provide access to medications used to treat HIV.

Health Insurance Assistance Program (HIAP)

For those with private insurance

Eligibility:

  • Must be living in Colorado
  • Income less than 500% of the Federal Poverty Level
  • Have access to and/or enrolled in private insurance

Services/Benefits:

  • Covers In-Network medical and prescription co-pays/co-insurance and deductibles.
  • Pays for your monthly health insurance premium.
  • Covered expenses include both HIV and non-HIV related care.
  • Limited prescription assistance
Required documents

Whether you are applying online or by paper we ask that you provide the following documentation to prove your eligibility:

  • Proof of income (one month's worth of paystubs, award letter, etc).
  • Proof of Residency (Colorado ID if the address matches your current residence, a utility bill, lease or mortgage). 
  • Your insurance card if you have one:

Examples of private health insurance include: health insurance through an employer, spouse's employer, parent, Connect for Health Colorado (Colorado's insurance market place), COBRA, retirement, etc.

 

Bridging the Gap (SPAP)

For those with Medicare

Eligibility:

  • Must be living in Colorado
  • Income less than 500% of the Federal Poverty Level
  • Be enrolled in or eligible for a Medicare part C, or D plan.

Services/Benefits:

  • Pays for either your part D or part C premium (cannot pay for part A or B).
  • $2,500 in assistance for medical co-pays per year
  • Assistance year round with prescription co-pays that are on the ADAP formulary.

  • Proof of income (one month's worth of paystubs, award letter, etc).
  • Proof of Residency (Colorado ID if the address matches your current residence, a utility bill, lease or mortgage).

If you need assistance enrolling in a Medicare part D, or C plan, we ask that you call the ADAP help desk at (303) 692-2716.

Supplemental Wrap Around Program (SWAP)

For those with Colorado Medicaid

Eligibility:

  • Must be living in Colorado
  • Income less than 138% of the Federal Poverty Level
  • Special criteria exists for those who are disabled

Services/Benefits:

  • Colorado Medicaid will pay for most of your health care expenses
  • ADAP can assist with your Medicaid co-pays.
Required documents

If you currently have Health First Colorado (Medicaid) you simply need to mark so on your application. No supporting documentation is required. We can verify you Medicaid status for you.

  • Proof of Residency (Colorado ID if the address matches your current residence, a utility bill, lease or mortgage).

HIV Medication Assistance Program (HMAP)

For those without access to insurance

Eligibility:

  • Must be living in Colorado
  • Income less than 500% of the Federal Poverty Level
  • Do not have access to insurance

Services/Benefits:

  • Pays for HIV related medication only.
  • Must be used at ADAP approved pharmacies

We may ask for supporting documentation that confirms you are not eligible for insurance. If you are eligible for health insurance we can assist you in enrolling in it. Current Pharmacies participating in HMAP include: Scale's Pharmacy, University IDGP Pharmacy and Denver Health's Public Health Pharmacy
