HIV and Hepatitis C testing are integral to prevention, treatment, and care efforts. Knowledge of one's HIV and Hepatitis C status is important for preventing the spread of the disease. Testing provides an opportunity for people to know their status, and to receive counseling and information about risk reduction. Many people who learn they are HIV or Hepatitis C positive modify their behavior to reduce the risk of transmission. Early knowledge of one’s status is also important for linking those who are positive to medical care and services that improve quality of life.
